THE CONDEMNATION OF BEING A MALE

A few days ago a litter of puppies that had been abandoned arrived at our center. They are 5 beautiful greyhounds each more beautiful, but we were surprised that all of them are males. After many years dedicating ourselves to this, we have observed that the tendency when it comes to abandoning is to abandon males since they are less productive than a female, and the curious thing is that this trend also coincides and extends to some of our adopters… There is still the old belief of discarding males for being known as more “dominant” but this, exceeds just that, an already obsolete belief. Precisely our experience leads us to say just the opposite: males are often calmer than females, however the preference of the female tends to prevail over that of the male …

In all the last litters we have published, requests for females arrive by the dozen, while for males sometimes not even one arrives …

We are now in the difficult task of finding families for them. Families that have already chosen a female as a preference, and we are trying to make them understand the wrongness of this belief and explaining that they deserve the same options as girls.

Hopefully one day sex, as is color, will cease to be a requirement to take into account as an option when adopting an animal …
