The sad and precious story of Dinga and Silvia …

She is Dinga, a podenca of about 7 years old who came to the foundation a few months ago. Dinga’s life had not been easy: she was a wild dog, she had hardly had contact with people, and only the presence of one of us terrified her. Dinga had Leishmania and we had to medicate her, but her fear was so great that she would not approach the food with medication that we put on her and for a while we had to put her in a cage alone … To do the veterinary checks we had to sedate her first, well She did not tolerate contact with any of us, and getting close to her without stressing her was an impossible task …
But there was our friend Silvia. The most patient and sweet with our little ones who moved by her story, wanted to try and with her infinite patience managed to win their trust. Silvia became her guardian angel, and we were able to change her to another cage where she could finally also be accompanied by other dogs. Little by little Dinga was improving, our goal was to find a home for her, but she still had a long way to go …
Every day Silvia, in addition to the visits on her workday, would visit Dinga outside of her hours to make sure everything was okay. And the bond became stronger every day.
But sadly, it’s not all happy stories on FBM …
In one of their encounters, Silvia detected that Dinga had a lump that turned out to be lymphatic cancer. He had several of his nodes affected, and more lumps began to appear. Also due to his Leishmania it was counterproductive to give him chemotherapy, as it could drastically lower his defenses. Still, we wanted to try everything and contacted a specialist oncologist, but his prognosis was not favorable. Dinga was not going to have a better quality of life, Dinga had no possibilities …
And time passed …
And Silvia kept accompanying Dinga every day …
And Dinga trusted Silvia more and more …
We continued to hope that he would get better and find a family.
But time does not forgive …
And the disease progressed faster than us …
Dinga got worse and we knew his time had come.
Silvia didn’t want it to happen, she wasn’t ready to let her go … but her love for her was much greater. His love for her made him understand that the greatest act of love towards her was to let her go …
She said goodbye to her, and Dinga closed her eyes forever …
Silvia has had her head down for a few days, and it seems that she pushes her medication cart like every day, but the truth is that now nothing is the same for her.
Passing in front of the cage le Dinga makes her remember and break into a thousand pieces …
We all had hope
But Silvia had something more than that.
She managed to gain the trust and affection of a dog that he will never forget.
They had an indestructible bond,
And so it will continue to be even if Dinga is no longer with us.
Silvia was the angel who took care of Dinga. Now Dinga will be the angel who takes care of Silvia from heaven …
This is the flip side of FBM. The face of the saddest stories. The face of dogs that can’t get ahead. And the face of the personal stories that each of us live at FBM with our little ones.
This is a tribute to all those dogs that stay on the road …
For all the workers who leave our souls with them …
This is our tribute to Silvia and Dinga.
Rest in peace little girl,
Silvia will never forget you 💔
